John Griffin

John Griffin - 10 U A Red

For 10 years John was the director of the Top Shelf Hockey, 5 years with N.I.S.T.C. as the hockey director and 3 years with the Global Hockey School. John also has coached with the Florida Jr. Panthers and Florida Panthers Hockey Schools for years. John teaches all levels of private and group lessons. John was the original founding member of the South Florida First Youth Hockey League. John has two sons who also like to play hockey.

Anthony Perdicaro - 12 U A

Anthony Perdicaro, a native of South Florida, joined the Panthers Ice Den in June 2015. He began his hockey career right here in South Florida playing for The Planet Ice Predators before moving to New York playing for the Long Island Gulls AAA program. From there, Anthony was drafted to the OHL's Sault STE Marie Greyhounds. Anthony Played Jr. Hockey for 4 years and then moved on to a 7 year professional career. During Anthony's time in Junior and Pro hockey he was coached and mentored by many current and ex-NHL head coaches. Anthony has now dedicated himself to youth hockey in South Florida. Being one of the first players from the area to play Pro hockey he is very excited to be a part of growing the game of hockey in South Florida.

Jeff Lobman - 12 U A (Associate Head Coach)

A native of Long Island New York Jeff started playing hockey at age 3. By age 5 he was on his first travel team. He played AA and AAA his entire youth hockey life. Captaining many of his youth teams leadership qualities were instilled in his youth. By 15 he was playing Junior A. Jeff Played 5 years Junior A, 4 of them in Canada. He also played around the world including Sweden, Finland, and Switzerland. Tallying up 1 point for every 3 games played as a Defenseman. Played 2 years NCAA D3 for Johnson and Wales in the ECAC before a career ending injury. His post career dream of being a coach has been realized. This will be Jeffs second season as a FJP coach.

Nick Houser - 12 U AA Red

Nick Houser, a native of Pittsburgh, PA, joined the Panthers Ice Den Hockey Operations department in August of 2016. He began his hockey career by playing youth AAA hockey in the Pittsburgh area before attending Shady Side Academy to compete at the Division I Prep School level. Prior to joining the Panthers, Houser completed his collegiate hockey career at the University of Michigan and Florida Gulf Coast University. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management while playing three seasons for the University of Michigan’s ACHA hockey team, where he served as team captain, before moving along to Florida Gulf Coast University to pursue his master’s degree in Business Administration. While at Florida Gulf Coast, Nick was elected as a team captain and ended his career with an ACHA National Championship in March of 2016. Houser was also selected for the 2016 ACHA Select Team, which represented the United States and USA Hockey in a European Challenge Series in Germany, Czech Republic, and Norway.

Professionally, Houser has experience in both professional sports and player representation. He served as a junior associate with the Erie SeaWolves Professional Baseball Club in the summer of 2014 and worked as an agency intern at Cornerstone Sports Management in 2015, where he represented athletes across the globe.

Denis Shvidki - 14 U AA

Shvidki, born in Kharkov, Ukraine, started skating at the age of nine. By the time he was 15, he was playing professional hockey in Russia for Yaroslavl Lokomotiv (then Yaroslavl Torpedo). At 17, Denis moved to Canada and started his first of two seasons with the Barrie Colts (OHL). Denis amassed 200 points at Barrie during that time. In the 1999 NHL Draft, Denis was selected 12th overall by the Florida Panthers and spent parts of six seasons with the organization including 76 games and 25 points for the Florida Panthers. He also played 173 games in the AHL (Louisville Panthers, San Antonio Rampage, Utah Grizzlies) where he amassed 112 points and was selected to two AHL All-Star games. In other professional stops, Denis spent his final eight seasons playing in Russia in the Kontinental Hockey League and in Germany in the DEL (Deutsche Eishockey Liga). Denis brings his 17 years of professional hockey experience to the Florida Panthers IceDen as one of our newest instructors!

Jerome Burke - 16 U A

Jérôme Burke enters his fifth season with the Florida Panthers organization, two as a staff accountant, two as the club’s Manager of Team Services and first as Director of Business Operations. Prior to joining the Panthers, Burke worked for the Montreal Juniors (QMJHL). A native of Montreal, Quebec in Canada, Burke holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University and a MBA in Sport Management from Florida Atlantic University. Burke is a 4-year college football player from McGill University, and has coached various high school football and basketball programs in Montreal.

This is his first year coaching in the Jr. Panthers program.

Andrew Bates - 18 U AA

Andrew Bates, a native of Marblehead, MA, joined the Florida Panthers in July 2016 as Manager of Hockey Development and Retention. He began his hockey career by playing youth AAA hockey in the Middlesex Islanders and Boston Jr. Eagle’s organizations. Andrew was one of the top High School Hockey Players in the Boston area. He was a four-year starter, Northeastern Conference Freshman Player of the Year, 2007 Northeast Conference All-Star, 2008 Northeast Conference All-Star, 2008 Northeast Conference All-Conference, Rally North Offensive Player of The Year, 2008 Offensive Player of The Year, Central Catholic All-Conference Selection, Hobey-Baker Award for Best All-Around Players, Two-Time Boston Herald All-Star, Two-Time Boston Globe All-Star, Two-Time Lynn Item All-Star, Two-Time Salem-News All-Star, Saugus Federal Credit Union MVP, and Newburyport Bank Classic MVP. Bates graduated in 2010 from New England Prep-School Hockey powerhouse Kimball-Union Academy, winning the New England Prep School Championship in 2010. Prior to joining the Panthers, Bates completed his collegiate career at Worcester State University in 2015 while completing his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Throughout his Student-Athlete career, Bates was recognized as a Top Student Athlete by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports, The National Collegiate Athletic Association, and the Northeastern University’s Sport in Society. Selected by his peers as leader, he served as Sophomore Class President and Team Captain. Bates was a three year starter and the programs leading goal scorer. Before arriving in South Florida Bates signed two contracts to play Professional Hockey at the National and International Level.

 

Professionally, Bates has worked with the Boston Bruins Youth Hockey Camps and Pro Ambitions Hockey. He served as Associate Head Coach with Competitive Goals Hockey in 2015 and worked with Muscular Sports Therapy helping college and high-school level athletes reach their potential. He has a passion to teach the game of hockey and help young athletes become leaders on and off the ice.

Neil Scancerella - Goaltending Coach

Neil has coached goalies for the past 11 years at Floyd Hall Arena, Give Em’ Nothing School For Goaltenders, and Great Saves Goaltending. He started to run the Goalie Clinics at Floyd Hall Arena when he was 14 years old, and ran the Goalie Camps until he was 16 years old. With Give Em’ Nothing School For Goaltenders, he started working for them when he was 16 years and Great Saves Goaltending I started working for them at the age of 19. With all three, he focused on skill development of each goalie. Both schools have produced multiple NCAA Division 1 and 3 goalies along with many ACHA Club hockey goalies.

Neil played youth hockey in New Jersey for my whole playing career. Played 3 years of Varsity High School Hockey with two different teams. He attended the University of New Hampshire where I played Division 2 ACHA Club Hockey and won the 2014 National Championship my sophomore year. Neil graduated in May of 2016 with a major in Kinesiology: Sport Studies and a minor in Business Administration.

Matthew Bergdorf - Head of Athletic Performance

Matthew Bergdorf received his Masters of Arts in Sport Coaching from the University of Denver. There he developed strong coaching characteristics while working in the profession as a strength and conditioning coach and running a training facility in a Chicago suburb. At this facility he worked with USHL’s Chicago Steel. He was responsible for designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for Team Illinois AAA hockey club, Geneva Cyclones AA hockey club, and high level figure skaters who were members of Team USA. Matt was a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Wisconsin River Falls where his responsibilities included both the Men’s and Women’s hockey teams. His Men’s team won the WIAC championship the last two seasons, and his women’s team earned 2nd and 3rd in the country the last two seasons.

Matt was an intern with the National Strength and Conditioning Association Headquarters in Colorado Springs, where he worked with the Colorado College Hockey team (NCAA Div. 1), Fountain Valley High School Hockey and the Pikes Peak Minors AAA hockey club.

As an undergraduate at California State University Fullerton, he worked with the Center for Sport Performance and was fortunate to do preseason testing for the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks during the 2013, 2014 and 2016 seasons. He also boasts internships from Velocity Sport Performance, Advanced Human Movement, Pepperdine University and California State University Fullerton, both NCAA Division 1 schools.
